What is Durus Al-Mutun
Durus al-Mutun (دروس المتون) translates to “Lessons of the Core Texts” in Arabic.
The phrase is composed of two words commonly used in Islamic and academic contexts: [1]
- Durus (دروس): The plural of dars (درس), meaning lessons, studies, or classes.
- Al-Mutun (المتون): The plural of matn (متن), which refers to core texts, primary sources, or the concise foundational summaries of a subject (such as grammar, law, or theology) that students often memorize. [2, 3, 4, 5]
Durus al-Mutun refers to the traditional method of studying foundational primary texts (mutun) that summarize various Islamic sciences
